This week is the last Journey class on Communication. Since Jesus told us to Love God and then to Love one another, I've been talking about communication through the framework of love.
In all of our efforts to communicate well, we're reminded that we can't change people. We are 100% responsible for our own behavior 100% of the time.
When we stop blaming others for our problems, and we stop reacting to the problems of others, where does that leave us? I'm often asked, "So, what do I do - just give up on the person I love?" Nope. You change.
We can't change people, but we can create an atmosphere for people to change.
Back in May, 2007, I wrote this: "People are most likely to change when they are accepted right where they are at. Jesus doesn't ask us to 'clean up' before he accepts us, and he doesn't accept us with the condition that we will change. Change happens in response to acceptance." if you want the whole post, it's here.
Love really matters. It's my favorite topic, so I'm looking foward to it!
