Beyond I Do is our workshop for engaged couples. I'm so proud of Ted and Angela Bryant - great people who lead it well! Professionally, they're really qualified: Ted has a PhD in cognitive psychology, and Angela is a licensed mental health counselor. Personally, they love Jesus, they love GCC, and we love them! As someone commented on their feedback form, "Ted and Angela model a great marriage for people of any age!" It was an amazing day as they poured into the lives of many couples!
"If you had $10,000 to invest in your marriage rather than your wedding, what would you do to invest in your relationship?"
"Marriage is a matter of God loving my spouse through me. What if the purpose of my life is to let God love my spouse through me?"
"God wants you to succeed in your marriage more than you want to succeed in your marriage. A great marriage is a light on a hill. It shines bright as a reflection of who God is." (I typed a lot of notes!)
After we commit our life to Jesus, there is no greater commitment than marriage. Yet, it's really easy to get casual about both, to take them for granted, isn't it? I don't want to be casual about Jesus or Jeff. Sustained commitment requires intentionality. God knew our inclination to live casually.
"Write these commandments that I've given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates." Deuteronomy 6:6-9
