Mother's Day brings upbeat, positive messages. The reality is that my kids are healthy, young adults and other mothers are grieving today. I'm grateful while others weep. Upside down.
The weather is crap today - cold and rainy with 40 mph wind gusts. My mood is great - slept in until 8:30 (crazy late for me), drinking Diet Coke, silence, reading blog posts, still in my robe, Jeff sitting across from me reading. Upside down.
Tamara Kerr called me 2 weeks ago. Her husband is the pastor at a church on the other side of town, and they just moved here 3 months ago from the west coast for this ministry. Their 21 year old married daughter had been killed in a tragic car accident in Colorado a few weeks earlier. It turns out that we are neighbors. I am going to knock on her door soon to meet her. Mother's Day.
Last week, we received an email from Cindy who has been watching our services on-line from Wisconsin. She included this picture of her son in his 20's; he was recently killed in a tragic hunting accident.
She connected with a recent teaching from Rob Wegner and feels she is in a prison of pain. We had a brief email exchange. Mother's Day.
We hugged our son, Jeffrey (21), this week before the 10 hour drive to Maryland for his summer internship. He arrived safely. We laughed with our daughter, Amy (23), this weekend when she called to tell us she caught the bouquet at a wedding reception. Mother's Day.
Some moms in peace. Some moms in pain. No easy words. Upside down.
