"All the Lonely People" was the topic of the weekend service. Go here and forward to about 19:10 if you want to experience an incredible version of Eleanor Rigby. The sound of loneliness can be overwhelming at times.
"No one cares. I am alone. Others have someone. I have no one. Others have purpose. I don't matter."
So sad...on many levels. It is sad that people feel this way. It is sad because the perception is distorted and yet feels so accurate. It is sad because those who do care are not able to clear the distortion.
The solution for the lonely is to change perspective. Loneliness is inward focused - it's all about me. The solution is counterintuitive. Upside down. It's Jesus. Instead of trying to have a friend, be a friend. Love one another.
The solution for those who care is to keep loving them. Be patient. Yes, the solution is easy enough - from where we're standing - on the outside. If it were so easy, the lonely people would have already done it. Compassion. Patience. Love.
Yet every doctor sends those inwardly focused people to the chemists not the Christ.
