I had a breakfast meeting recently with a potential ministry leader. We were spending time getting to know each other better, talk about our interests and stuff like that. We were both anxious to see if she was a fit for the ministry role. It's a fun thing for me to do!
She has a warm and welcoming personality, and a passion to see people move from isolation into community with others. However, she had a belief that said, "I don't think I'm really a leader. I want to lead but I'm happy to step back and just follow someone else."
It was all I could do to keep from getting up to hug her! When I see the signs of a hesitant but willing leader, I get really excited!
Is confidence bad? No...but there's something about humility.
Mark 10:27 (The Message) Jesus was blunt: "No chance at all if you think you can pull it off by yourself. Every chance in the world if you let God do it."
I think Jesus loves hesitant but willing leaders too!
I have to agree, All through the Bible we see leaders who didn't want to lead or didn't think they could, but God chose them to lead. That way God gets the glory. There's a great book called "Leading with a Limp" by Dan Allender. It's great.
